Hardware Design Engineer

From fundamental methodology, though IoT device design to managing, analysing, and presenting the data to our clients, we are commercially active in brownfield redevelopments, air quality, flooding, waste management and the oil and gas sectors in the UK, Australasia, and Europe.

About the Role

You will be part of the R&D team reporting to the Hardware Lead. The R&D team comprises a group of scientists, data scientists, and engineers designing solutions to address pressing environmental issues. You will be involved in the design and development of novel IoT devices, from initial concept to final production.

Job Details

  • Design of hardware solutions based on client and team requirements.
  • Selection and evaluation of key integrated circuit components for new designs.
  • Prototyping using evaluation boards and development systems.
  • Generation of schematics and working with external PCB design shops and board assembly suppliers.
  • Understand, mitigate, and educate others on potential hardware limitations.
  • Since we operate across multiple sectors, with a broad range of technology, you will be encouraged to broaden your knowledge and skill set.

Skills & Competencies

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or a related subject.
  • Experienced in the design of analogue and digital sensor interfaces to embedded microcontrollers (small signal recovery techniques, differential signalling, I2C, SPI, UART, etc).
  • Experience in low voltage DC / DC converter topology, filters, and related power supply circuits.
  • Familiarity with board-level integration of wireless modems (LoRaWAN, cellular, WiFi, etc).
  • Familiarity with C / C++ for embedded systems desirable.
  • Experience with design of multi-layer PCBs and fabrication processes desirable.
  • Prior experience in bringing hardware to market would be advantageous.
  • With the intertwined nature of firmware and hardware on microcontrollers, experience with firmware development is advantageous.
