About the Company

Ambisense designs and builds field-deployable sensor technologies which feed into a centralized platform with the aim to automate and improve the delivery of environmental risk assessment. Our innovative technology is actively used to detect and mitigate against environmental risk providing a cost-effective solution to long-term monitoring requirements. We are commercially active in brownfield redevelopments, air quality, waste management and oil and gas sectors in UK, Australasia and Europe. The focus is to develop complete solutions encompassing hardware software and analytics that will increase the value proposition of the company.

About the Role

Ambisense is growing rapidly. The Business Development Manager (Air Quality) role has been created to accommodate the expansion needs with the leading efforts to establish business growth opportunities in the Indoor and Outdoor Air Quality Sector. The role is primarily focused on obtaining new clients and fostering business relationships to increase revenue from the sector.

Ambisense at its core, is technology company and a key part of this role is working with our customers and prospects to demonstrate the value of Ambisense software. This in turn requires a strong background and understanding of how to sell software technology and indeed the environmental verticals which the company serves.

The following are the main elements of responsibilities of the role:

Business Development

  • Generating leads by undertaking independent research and seeking out relevant contacts in an organisation
  • Identifying new business opportunities e.g., through tenders within the air quality sector – being able to research this market independently
  • Understanding the needs of Ambisense customers by asking relevant questions and by being able to respond effectively with a quote
  • Presenting Ambisense’s solutions to the prospective clients via online (Zoom etc.) and face to face meetings
  • Developing and managing a Sales Pipeline
  • Adhering to sales KPIs set out by the Commercial Manager
  • Identifying and preparing tender documentation for projects
  • Reporting sales forecasts to the Commercial Manager and the Operations Team
  • Updating the CRM system (Salesforce)
  • Arranging business meetings with prospective clients via the phone and email etc.
  • Providing trustworthy customer feedback on the potential software development opportunities to the Commercial Manager and the R&D team
  • Assisting project managers in providing post-sales support


  • Helping develop the company’s Social Media accounts (Twitter & LinkedIn) with the aim of increasing members/follower numbers and creating regular engaging content
  • Attending industry specific events

General Responsabilities

  • Work from time to time at project locations and other office locations, and within other company group companies
  • Willing to travel and stay overnight as business needs require
  • Undertake such additional duties to support the business that are reasonably commensurate with, or lesser than, the level of the role
  • Carry out their duties with full regard to the company’s Health & Safety and Environmental Policies and any other company policies relevant to their role.
  • Maintain the professional image of the company at all times

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Over 6 yrs post-graduation professional experience in selling technology/software
  • Sales related experience within the environmental/air quality (or similar) sector
  • First Degree in suitable subject
  • High level of computer literacy including: Office Professional Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint);
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience in presenting to external audiences
  • Ability to work as an integral part of a ‘closely knit’ team
  • Ability to manage and prioritise individual workload to meet strict deadlines
  • A practical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to be flexible and assist with all and any task required to grow and develop the business
  • Hold a current full UK driving licence and willing to drive to anywhere in the UK and occasionally beyond

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Second degree in a suitable subject
  • Professional qualification or post-education qualification in commercial management and/or marketing
  • Experience of working in a rapidly growing and expanding company
  • Training experience and/or qualification in training
